KURA announces closure of Valley Road in Nairobi

Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) on May 18, 2024 announced partial closure of Valley Road in Nairobi from May 18th to 20th 2024, for the purpose of repairing sections of the road.

In a statement, KURA noted that the busy road will be closed in phases, starting from Saturday to Monday.

“We wish to notify the general public that there will be traffic disruption along Valley Road, Nairobi as from 6 AM Saturday, 18th May till 6 PM Monday 20th May, 2024.

“This is to allow the contractor on site to improve sections of the road. Road closures will be done along the following sections;

•Integrity Centre-Ralph Bunche Road section (Saturday)

•Ralph Bunche Road-Argwings Kodhek Roundabout section (Sunday)

•Argwings Kodhek Roundabout-Ngong Road Roundabout section (Monday)

The contractor is scheduled to work day and night so as to minimize the work period and ensure minimal disruptions,” read part of KURA statement.

Meanwhile, the urban roads authority urged motorists plying that route to exercise caution and seek alternative routes.

According to KURA, the road maintenance exercise was aimed at transforming urban mobility for the benefit of all road users.

The announcement comes a few days after the government agency closed several roads that were affected by floods in Nairobi.

For instance, on May 6, 2024 announced closure of UN Avenue in Runda due to rising water levels on the road as a result of heavy downpour in Nairobi.

The sections affected are between off Ruaka Road roundabout and Magnolia close.

“The Kenya Urban Roads Authority regrets to inform the public that UN-Avenue, Runda has been closed due to the rising water  levels on the road following the heavy downpour experienced last night,” KURA noted in a statement.

In a separate incident, Enterprise road, Eastern and Thika bypasses were partially closed, and rendered impassable on May 1, 2024 due to floods and the ongoing heavy rains in Nairobi.

This was after KURA issued a public warning on some roads in  Nairobi and Kiambu that have been declared partially impassible.
