Last moments of Tharaka Nithi blogger who was found dead

Details of last moments of Peris Mugera, deceased Tharaka Nithi blogger, have emerged.

The body of Mugera was recovered in Kirinyaga County after she was positively identified by her family on Friday, March 8.

She has been reported missing since March 1.

Mugera, a single mother of two, reportedly left home on that Friday, March 1 and informed her two children aged 15 and six that she was meeting a friend.

Further, that she would proceed to work after the meeting and return home later that evening.

Panic struck when she did not return as agreed and the children went on to inform the landlord of their fears.

This led the family to file a missing persons report that night.

On the same night, the body of an adult female was discovered along the Makutano-Sagana highway in Kirinyaga county.

“It was reported today at 0800hrs that along Makutano-Sagana highway there was a body of an unknown female adult lying on the road.

“Police officers led by OCS Kiamaciri police station, DCI officers and CSI from Kerugoya rushed to the scene and confirmed that the body of an unknown female adult aged approximately 30 years was found lying dead on the roadside,” read part of a police report.

However the body was not immediately identified hence the family never learnt of the tragic news that day.

Meanwhile, police officers from Chuka who were working the case traced her last mobile phone signal to Kathoge in Kirinyaga county on that Friday at 2am before it went off.

Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner Wesley Koech stated that she must have been murdered due to the bruises on her forehead.

“Mugera must have been killed between when she left her house and Monday morning when her body was discovered by members of the public on the road,” he added.

Mugera’s case was reportedly peculiar owing to the low levels of insecurity in the area.

Her demise comes about eight months after he boss Gitari Mbiuki was found dead in his car in Embu.

Mbiuki is believed to have ended his life by shooting himself in the head using his licensed gun.

He previously ran for Tharaka Nithi gubernatorial seat in the last elections. The deceased blogger apparently campaigned for him and worked at his charity foundation.

This comes against the backdrop of another murder investigation involving a blogger- Daniel Muthiani alias Sniper from Meru County.
