President William Ruto danced to the song Kasongo at the Kisii State Lodge on January 1, 2025 as he led Kenyans in ushering in the New Year.
It was cheers and laughter as President Ruto danced to the song that has been trending on social media with some Kenyans using it to refer to his Kenya Kwanza administration.
Joining the President in the dance were First Lady Rachel Ruto, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Government Spokesman Isaac Mwaura, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, South Migirano MP Silvanus Osoro and other leaders.
“Kasongo,” originally performed by Super Mazembe, is experiencing a resurgence in Kenya, as citizens use it in creating short videos aimed at passing a message to the government.
Originally written by Alley Katele, who also took on lead vocals, the track features a woman pleading for her estranged husband to return home.
Similarly, the song has been reinterpreted by online content creators in the country, who have modified it with satirical lyrics targeted at President Ruto’s leadership.
Reports indicate that a section of Kenyans have been using Kasongo as a reminder for President Ruto to address the economic challenges in the country.
