Azimio La Umoja spokesperson Prof. Makau Mutua has urged leaders in the coalition party who do not support the national dialogue committee report to quit.

In a statement on Monday, December 11, Mutua emphasized that nobody was forced to join Azimio, right from the beginning.

According to Mutua, the report was drafted with the input of the opposition party, Azimio hence the need for all leaders to support it or leave the party.

“Azimio isn’t a forced marriage. Please leave if you can’t support the NADCO report which is the product of the party’s agreed democratic processes,” Mutua noted in a statement on his X account.

Mutua’s statement comes at a time when Azimio leaders Martha Karua and Eugene Wamalwa urged Kenyans to reject the talks report.

For instance, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has termed the report a waste of time and taxpayers money.

Speaking during an event in Nairobi on December 7, Karua said the report failed to address key issues affecting Kenyans, including the high cost of living.

Karua insisted that the report failed to capture the issue of lowering the cost of living, audit of the 2022 election and respect for political parties and multiparty democracy.

“Any purported agreement that does not immediately impact on the cost of living, electoral justice and respect for multiparty democracy is a fraud on the people and must be rejected,” she said.

Meanwhile, DAP -K party leader Eugene Wamalwa had earlier disclosed that he refused to append his signature to the National Dialogue Committee’s report because it failed to address key issues affecting Kenyans.

Wamalwa said that it was unfortunate for the report to be finalized without addressing the issue of lowering the high cost of living.

In addition, Wamalwa alleged that he will also reject allowances that he was supposed to be paid for being part of the national dialogue team.
