LeBron James and Son Bronny make NBA history as first Father-Son duo in Regular season game

LeBron James and his son, Bronny James, made history on Tuesday night, becoming the first-ever father-son duo to play together in an NBA regular-season game. The historic moment came during the Los Angeles Lakers’ 110-103 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Crypto.com Arena.

The James duo briefly shared the court during the second quarter of the game, following a pre-season appearance together earlier in the month. As LeBron and Bronny prepared to check in, LeBron Sr. could be heard encouraging his son: “You ready? You see the intensity, right? Just play carefree though.”

The home crowd erupted into cheers as LeBron and Bronny approached the scorer’s table, preparing to enter the game. The Lakers had already surged into a double-digit lead at that point, setting the stage for a memorable father-son moment.

Adding to the historic occasion, Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr.—who made history in Major League Baseball playing together for the Seattle Mariners in 1990-1991—were in attendance, further emphasizing the significance of the night.

LeBron, who started the day by celebrating his daughter Zhuri Nova’s 10th birthday, reflected on the special moment of sharing the court with his son.

“That moment – us checking in together – is something I’ll never forget, no matter how old I get, how my memory may fade as I get older or whatever. I will never forget that moment,” said the 39-year-old NBA legend.

While Bronny’s official NBA debut was short, with just 2 minutes and 41 seconds of playtime, he still left an impression. The 20-year-old attempted two shots, but both were unsuccessful. He expressed gratitude for the energy and support from the Lakers fans.

“I try not to focus on everything that’s going on around me. I was trying to focus on not messing up. But I totally felt the energy,” Bronny said post-game.

Lakers officials had been secretive about when LeBron and Bronny would officially take the court together for a regular-season game. However, ahead of the season opener, LeBron admitted that the anticipation of realizing his long-held dream of sharing an NBA court with his son was nearly overwhelming.

LeBron, who turns 40 in December, has expressed in the past how much it would mean to him to play alongside his son in the NBA, and Tuesday night marked the fulfilment of that dream.
