Legendary Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao seeks to add another achievement to his boxing career.
Pacquiao has announced his ambition to secure a gold medal at the 2024 Olympic games.
Philippine Olympic Committee POC President Rep. Abraham Tolentino mentioned that Pacquiao’s team inquired about the former champion’s Paris qualification.
“Sen. Pacquiao’s camp reached out saying our Filipino ring idol wants to fight in Paris,” Tolentino said. “But the Senator can no longer vie for qualification in the Asian Games in Hangzhou next month.”
However, the Asian Games, the Olympic qualifier, sets a 40-year-old age limit for athletes in all sports.

According to Tolentino, Pacquiao, aged 44, might qualify for Paris via two 2024 Olympic qualifying tournaments in the first and second quarters.
An alternative approach involves assisting Pacquiao in securing an Olympic berth through the IOC’s Universality rule, with Paris offering just nine spots (five for women and four for men).
Tolentino also shared discussions initiated by the local Olympic committee with the Philippine Boxing Alliance and the International Olympic Committee about Pacquiao’s request.
Weighing in at 66 kilograms Pacquiao must decide between 63.50 kg or 71 kg weight standards which are in the Paris boxing program for professional boxers.
During the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, out of the total 186 boxers, 43 were professional prizefighters, among them Eumir Felix Marcial, who secured the middleweight bronze medal.
Following the suspension of the International Boxing Association, the IOC will oversee the boxing competitions in Paris.
