Bill Gates: "Every piece of bread I’ve ever eaten is from GMO wheat"

Microsoft founder and philanthropist Bill Gates is pro-genetically modified organisms (GMO). On Thursday, November 17, Gates revealed that he has been consuming GMO foods all his life.

"Every piece of bread I have eaten is from genetically modified wheat, every piece of corn I've eaten is from GMO corn," he said.

According to Gates, GMOs are "proven products". This comes amidst plans by the Kenya Kwanza government to import 10 million bags of GMO maize starting Friday, November 18.

Moses Kuria: nothing wrong with GMOs

Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has lauded the move jesting that everyone will die someday.

"Being in this country you are a candidate for death. And because there are many things competing for death, there is nothing wrong with adding GMO to that list. That is why we are deliberately allowing GMO into this country," he says.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has, however, implored the government to halt the process temporarily, arguing that at the moment there is surplus supply of maize in Rift Valley region.

"CS Moses Kuria at his usual element but our Rift Valley farmers are currently harvesting maize, the importation of maize should stop until govt has mopped up all this year's crop & avoid lowering prices that don't match the inputs incurred by maize farmers!" He said.
