A zoo in the United States has come up with a unique Valentine’s Day idea: Name a cockroach after your ex-lover and then feed it to an animal.

For a fee of $10 [KSh1,200], San Antonio Zoo will allow visitors with nagging exes to send "a cold, but direct message that you’re no longer interested," reports CNN.

The stunt dubbed “Cry Me a Cockroach”, is part of the zoo's annual fundraising events. Visitors who detest cockroaches can also choose to carry out the action using a vegetable [for $5] or a rodent for [$25].

"Those with an especially stubborn ex can pay for a $150 [KSh18,700] upgrade, which includes a personalized video message to the recipient showing their cockroach, rodent or vegetable being devoured by an animal," adds CNN.

Cyle Perez, the zoo’s director of public relations says that in 2022, they received more than 8,000 'applications' from all the 50 states in the U.S , and over 30 different countries.

“Right now, we are on track to break last years record, with ‘Zach,’ ‘Ray’ and ‘Adam’ being the most submitted ex-names so far,” Perez said.

Established in 1914, the San Antonio Zoo receives more than 1 million visitors per year. It is home to more than 750 species some of which are endangered or extinct in the wild.
