While the issue of cheating in relationships remains sensitive, relationship advisor Benjamin Zulu says one should not assume that their partner is remorseful over an affair.

He argues that sometimes people get into other romantic relationships in a bid to end their current one without being vocal about it.

"Sometimes people cheat because they want out and they don't know how to end things. They have already left mentally, and that's why they seek fulfilment out there," Zulu adds.

Bearing that in mind, the affected partner is therefore saved the embarrassment of working hard to mend a sinking relationship.

"You may have things to work on yourself, but you should step back and watch if they still want to work on this relationship or if they want to walk away," the relationship advisor says.

Zulu opines that it is better to deal with the pain of a breakup rather than prolonged suffering in one full of uncertainties.
