Lilian Odira unveils masterplan to dethrone Mary Moraa in the 800m battle

Lilian Odira is silently plotting to unseat reigning world 800m champion Mary Moraa in 2025. With consistent performances and rigorous preparations, Odira is setting the stage for a fierce rivalry on the track.

Rising Star

Odira has been turning heads with her remarkable displays in cross-country races. While Moraa is yet to make her season debut, Odira has been working tirelessly to build her stamina. Her recent performances have shown she is ready to step into the limelight.

Last season, Odira competed in several cross-country races to strengthen her endurance. The strategy paid off, earning her a spot on the Olympic team. Though she missed out on the final, finishing fourth in the semifinal, the experience bolstered her confidence.

Medal Haul

The Africa 800m silver medallist had a stellar 2024 season. She bagged silver at the Africa Senior Athletics Championships and narrowly missed out on a medal at the African Games, finishing fourth. Her season ended with a sixth-place finish at the Boris Hanžeković Memorial.

Strategic Preparations

Odira is using cross-country races to sharpen her endurance. She recently finished second in the women’s 2km loop race at the Sirikwa Classic Cross Country. The result has fueled her ambition to dominate the 800m this season.

“Last year I did some cross-country build-ups, and it helped me make the Olympic team. I decided to do the same this year because it’s a great way to prepare,” Odira said.

Indoor Aspirations

Odira’s immediate focus is to secure a place in Kenya’s team for the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China. The indoor races will serve as vital preparation for her outdoor campaign.

“I’m waiting to see if I’ll make the world indoors team. That will be part of my build-up for the season,” she said. “I’m working on my strength and endurance, then I’ll know what to focus on next.”

Tokyo Dreams

Beyond the indoor season, Odira is eyeing the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan. The global event will be her chance to take on Moraa, Keely Hodgkinson, and Athing Mu on the grandest stage.

With her confidence growing and her preparations on track, Lilian Odira is ready to give the reigning queen of the 800m a serious run for her money. The 2025 season promises an epic battle in the women’s 800m.
