Linturi ranked as worst CS, scores an E in latest Tifa report

Agriculture cabinet secretary Mithika Linturi has been ranked as the worst CS in President William Ruto’s cabinet, according to the latest Tifa report.

In a report released on Thursday May 2, 2024, Tifa noted that Interior CS Kithure Kindiki was ranked as the best with 68 % (B plain) while Linturi scored an E of 25%.

The CSs were rated based on how they use public resources without corruption, their active involvement in activities at ministries and what they are doing to  make the lives of Kenyans better.

Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi and Sports CS Ababu Nanwamba were ranked second best CSs with C+ of 59% each, while ICT CS Eliud Owalo was fourth with a C of 51%.

Defence CS Aden Duale had C plain of 50%, while Davis Chirchir of Energy Ministry, Labour CS Florence Bore, Trade CS Rebecca Miano, and Water CS Zachary Njeru scored a D- each.

“Most respondents are familiar with the Subsidized Fertilizer Programme, with the highest level of awareness observed in the Mt. Kenya, Central Rift and Western regions. The two regions of lowest awareness are Northern and Nairobi (where there is little or no agricultural production),” read part of Tifa report.

Overall, 82% of respondents said they were aware of the government’s Subsidized Fertilizer Programme. 85% of respondents from rural areas while 76% of respondents from urban centres reported that they are aware of the fertilizer subsidy in the country. 

“Among those aware of it, slightly over half of all respondents (55%) consider that the subsidized fertilizer programme is “not working well.”

“Such negative perceptions are highest in Coast and South Rift, and lowest In Central Rift and Northern (though with little agricultural activity found in the latter region),” Tifa noted.

According to Tifa report, Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi is considered the most responsible for distribution of fake fertilizer in the country.
