In an election mimicking the Country’s general elections, pupils of Lions School in Embu have held polls that were organised by Embu County IEBC officials.

The elections were characterized by emotions and celebrations as the results were announced by IEBC officials.

School head teacher Nancy Mungai observed they sought IEBC services on the school elections in order to have pupils learn the democratic process that augurs well for the CBC curriculum that is skill based.

She noted that the teachers took the opportunity to mentor the young ones as those with disciplinary cases were not allowed to vie.

Those who were not allowed to contest in the school elections were informed of the reasons to ensure they change for the better.

The chair and head of elections board Paul Otieno noted that the elections are well organised with pupils participating aggressively.

Otieno noted that it was an opportunity for the learners to learn on how to become responsible leaders and citizens.

IEBC election manager for Manyatta Constituency Charles Gekonde who supervised the exercise noted that all pupils in the country should be introduced to elections.

Gekonde explained that the move will ensure the country conducts better elections with minimal wastage of resources in training and sensitization of voters.

He urged other schools to embrace the move and allow the young ones to learn how democracy operates at a tender age.

The new school president Claris Nyambura revealed that though she didn’t expect to win, she had told the pupils that she will advocate and push for planting of more flowers and improvement of the School diet if elected.
