List of accidents on the notorious Nakuru-Eldoret highway in the past few weeks

The Nakuru -Eldoret highway has been in the headlines due to the numerous accidents that have claimed many lives occasioned by Poor weather conditions, bad drivers and careless pedestrians.

In December alone on three different occasions, many have lost their lives on the same road.

The first one was on the morning of December 18th when four people lost their lives after a Nakuru-bound matatu belonging to Msamaria Shuttle Ltd lost control, colliding head-on with an oncoming 60-seater bus at Hill Tea Area along Eldoret- Nakuru.

The matatu was carrying 16 passengers at the time of the accident which claimed the lives of the driver and three other passengers who died on the spot. Nine other passengers were seriously injured.

On New Year’s Eve, another seven people lost their lives on the highway, at around 0720hrs, five passengers lost their lives on the spot following the tragic fatal road traffic accident that occurred at Eveready Roundabout along Eldoret -Nakuru Highway.

The driver of the trailer Reg No.KCG 355Y/ZE1279 lost control and rammed into a Matatu belonging to Ngata Sacco Matatu which in turn rammed onto another trailer KDB 341D/ZG4149 Actross.

Several other passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Nakuru Level Five Hospital for treatment.

Two more victims succumbed to injuries which brought the total number of fatalities to 7.

On January 4th National Police Service Officers from Timboroa Police Station responded to a tragic road traffic accident that claimed 3 lives at about 0140 hours in the Mlango Tatu area along Nakuru-Eldoret Road.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the accident involved a Mitsubishi bus and 3 other vehicles including a Toyota Probox.

Several passengers have been rushed to Eldama Ravine Sub-county Hospital for treatment but two more unknown passengers have succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment at the said hospital. Bodies have been preserved at the same Hospital Morgue awaiting Autopsy.

Two days later on January 6th at about 0500hrs at the Mustard area along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway, a fatal road traffic accident involving 3 Isuzu motor vehicles and a Mercedes Benz trailer claimed one life and left several other passengers injured.

In the latest report, 15 people lost their lives on Tuesday morning in a road accident at the Twin Bridge area along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.

According to a report from the National Police Service (NPS), the fatal accident occurred at 2:45 am on Tuesday.

The carnage involved a bus belonging to Classic Kings of Congo and North Ways Shuttle Toyota matatu.

Police officers attached to Mau Summit Police Station rushed to the scene alongside medics to address the situation.

It is reported that the injured were rushed to Molo Sub-County Hospital, while the deceased’s bodies were transferred to the hospital’s mortuary.

NPS urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads, particularly at this time when students are resuming school.
