Liverpool edge closer to historic 20th title as Arsenal slip up against Crystal Palace

Liverpool’s pursuit of an historic 20th Premier League championship received a huge boost with Arsenal’s 2-2 thriller against Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium. The result has Liverpool more in charge of the title race and still in touching distance of Manchester United’s all-time record of 20 English top-flight championships.

Arsenal had to react to the pressure of keeping up with Liverpool, who have been dominating the last couple of weeks. The Gunners started well and looked all set to leave with all three points, taking the lead twice courtesy of Jakub Kiwior and Leandro Trossard’s goals. Crystal Palace, however, showed incredible determination and resilience, never once losing heart.

Eberechi Eze got the opening by shutting the Emirates crowd up with a majestic volley to tie the game following the opener from Kiwior. Even when Trossard was introduced to restore Arsenal’s lead, Palace continued to stir trouble. At stoppage time, substitute Jean-Philippe Mateta was the man with the moment of genius with a fabulous chip over Aaron Ramsdale to bring the game level and leave Arsenal gasping.

The draw has an enormous effect in the title table. Arsenal, who have played some moments of brilliance throughout the season, now trail Liverpool at a crucial juncture. With just a few games remaining in the campaign, every point counts — and this defeat could prove costly for Mikel Arteta and his players. Despite twice leading the game, the Gunners were unable to seal the win, raising questions about the solidity of their defense as well as their capacity to hold their nerve in important matches.

For Liverpool, the result is a massive morale boost. Jürgen Klopp’s side, already energized by fine recent form, now have a clear path to the title. They lead with momentum in their favor and the motivation to be the first side to match Manchester United’s all-time record. With the final stages of the season now near, Liverpool’s destiny is very much in their own hands.

Arsenal’s lost points will not just enrage their fans but also raise questions regarding their ability to win it all. They have performed better under Arteta, but such vital moments continue to evade them. The missed opportunities, both on the score sheet and in being able to dominate the game, will catch up with them sooner or later.

As the title battle gathers momentum, Liverpool are now leaders, and there is pressure on them to retain it. If they succeed, it will be a fair return for a season of grit, focus, and quality consistency. For their fans, the chance to enjoy a 20th title — and to match their arch-rivals at the summit of the English football hierarchy — is within reach of tantalizing possibility.

With all the remaining games now having so much importance attached to them, the Premier League is set for a nail-biting finale. But with Arsenal’s recent slip, it’s Liverpool who have taken control, and the title is theirs to lose now.
