Liverpool sets a date with Chelsea in the Carabao Cup finals

SportsWORLD

A draw was enough to help Liverpool collect enough aggregate points to cruise to the finals of the Carabao Cup where they will take on Chelsea who humbled Middlesbrough 6-2 in their semi-final.

With a one-goal advantage from the first leg at Anfield, Liverpool took the game further away from Fulham early on through Luis Diaz’s deflected strike and looked set for a comfortable evening until Issa Diop ensured a tense finale late in the game.

Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp was pleased with the performance of his squad and the Qualification for the finals at Wembley.

“It was just a good game, a good cup game.”

“Whoever expected tonight that we just show quality and we get through and this will be a walk in the park doesn’t understand the game and doesn’t understand the importance of the occasion.

“Both teams wanted to go to Wembley – and we qualified and that’s all we could wish for.”

Liverpool have qualified for their 14th League Cup final, four more than any other side. It is the third time they have done so under Jurgen Klopp, with only Bob Paisley doing so more often as Reds boss.

In the 2023-24 League Cup, Liverpool and Chelsea are set to contest a domestic cup final for a third time in the last three seasons – they faced in both the FA Cup and League Cup finals in 2021-22, with both games ending 0-0 and won on penalties by Liverpool.
