Electric car set to be locally assembled costs only KSH 2 per kilometre to operate

The African Climate Summit paved the way for the arrival of the most compact modern electric car in Kenya, whose popularity went up after President William Ruto showed up in it at the KICC.

President Ruto clad in a youthful look drove from state house Nairobi to KICC in the AirEv YETU EV a four-sitter electric car that turned heads For its unique look as he officially opened the Africa Climate summit that went on for three days on September 2023.

However new details have emerged about the operational cost of the unique compact automobile.

According to Dr Isaac Kalua Green an environmentalist, the vehicle only costs Ksh 2 per kilometre it covers.

“It cost me only ksh 460 to charge to full capacity which is a range of 200 kilometres,” stated Autopax founder.

Autopax the company that spearheaded the arrival of Vehicles in the country is set to start assembling the car using locally sourced materials.

This electric car will be manufactured in partnership with global leader SGMW in China.

On 21st June 2023, Autopax and SGMW signed an Engineering Services and Partnership Agreement at their offices in Liuzhou, Guangxi, P.R. China.

The car comes in two models Autopax AirEv YETU (which covers 200 kilometers on full charge) and Autopax AirEv YETU Pro (which covers 300 kilometers on full charge).

Autopax found Dr Isaac Kalua Green while appearing on TV47’s Daily Reports revealed that the model the president was riding is the pro version which covers 300 Kilometer on full charge and supports fast charging.

“The car is charged by the normal power outlet found in our homes,” said Dr. Green.

DR.kalua Green states that the car will go for Ksh 1.7 to Ksh 2 Million when they start assembly and distribution in the country.
