Longtime Raila Odinga’s aide and bodyguard George Oduor passes away after illness

George Oduor, a longtime aide and bodyguard to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Raila Odinga, has passed away. According to reports, Oduor died on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital, where he had been admitted for over a week.

A trusted member of Raila Odinga’s security team, Oduor had served the Odinga family for over 30 years, dating back to the 1990s. He was a constant presence at public events, faithfully accompanying the former Prime Minister throughout his political journey.

One of the earliest records of his service dates back to 1994, when he was seen at the funeral of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga at Uhuru Park. Over the years, his dedication to Raila and the ODM party earned him widespread respect within political circles.

ODM’s Director of Communications, Phillip Etale, mourned Oduor’s passing, remembering him as a steadfast and loyal friend.

“This is one man who stood by me at all costs. I have lost a friend. Big bro. Rest Easy, George,” wrote Etale in a heartfelt tribute.

At the time of publication, Raila Odinga had not yet issued a statement on the loss of his longtime aide.

Oduor’s three-decade service to Raila Odinga and the ODM Party reflected his unwavering loyalty and commitment. His passing marks the end of an era in Odinga’s inner circle, leaving behind a legacy of trust, sacrifice, and dedication.
