Fire fighters from Nairobi City County have contained a fire from an explosion involving a gas tanker at Stage Mpya in Embakasi along Outering Road.
According to St John Ambulance, no casualties have been reported from incident that occurred on Monday, June 3 at around 11:45 am.
“No casualties have been reported. Our emergency teams on standby,” St John Ambulance says.
Video clips circulating on social media showed the tanker, that was ferrying Liquified Petroleum Gas, engulfed in huge fire, releasing a dark, heavy smoke.
The cause of the fire is not yet established.
Nairobi Police Commander Adamson Bungei says immediately after the incident, police blocked flow of traffic along Outering Road, as they were focused on evacuating the area to avoid a disaster.
This incident comes months after another lorry ferrying LPG exploded, igniting a huge ball of fire in Mradi area.
The incident left several people dead and more than 200 others injured.
