The County Government of Machakos has opposed a directive by the Ministry of Lands seeking to transfer land records of Konza region from Machakos land registry to Makueni.
Lands Executive Committee Member (CEC) Nathaniel Nganga and County Secretary Muya Ndambuki rubbished an internal memo by the Ministry’s Secretary for Administration, Ali Maalim, approving the transfer of lands records from the registry in Machakos to Wote.
The two officials declared Machakos will not cede any piece of its territory to any county and revealed they had instructed their lawyers to challenge the attempt to annex parts of Kalama Sub-County.
“We demand that the Ministry of Lands immediately halts the entire exercise of transfer of records altogether until a consultative meeting involving all stakeholders is held,” Said Nganga.
His sentiments were echoed by the County Secretary who declared the County leadership will exhaust all the available avenues to protect the interests of Machakos residents.
“A time has come for us to tell the people of Machakos that not a single inch of Machakos soil will be ceded to anybody. As a Government we now must revisit our boundaries and rectify all the inconsistencies,” Dr Ndambuki said.
Kalama Ward MCA Musyimi Maeke declared there was no case of territorial dispute between Machakos and Makueni worthy of bargaining over. “It should go on record that in 2010 a public participation was conducted by IEBC and the people of Kalama stated clearly that they wanted to fall within Machakos. The purpose of devolution was to bring services closer to the people and it is unacceptable to move residents against their will to seek services far away from their residence,” said Maeke.
