The 26th edition of the Safari 7s Rugby Tournament has been officially launched and, for the first time in its history, will be held outside Nairobi. The tournament is set to take place from the 11th to 13th October 2024 in Machakos County.
This year’s Safari 7s has attracted participation from teams hailing from countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, among others.
Speaking during the launch of the tourney Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti extended a warm welcome to all teams and fans from across Kenya and around the world.
“We are proud to showcase the warmth, hospitality, and unique attractions of our county—where even water flows uphill,” she said.
Ndeti emphasized that the Safari 7s is more than just a rugby tournament; it represents a celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
Also Speaking during the launch, Moses Ndale, Vice Chairman of the Kenya Rugby Union, emphasized the significance of the event, stating,
“All roads will lead to Machakos. The Safari 7s is one of the biggest events on our calendar. By moving it outside Nairobi, we aim to offer fans a unique experience, allowing them to engage with top-tier local and international rugby players.”
Ndale encouraged both players and fans to maintain a positive spirit and ensure a high turnout in Machakos, as the event will provide an economic boost to the county.
Kenyan teams like Shujaa, Morans, Lionesses, and Cubs have historically used the Safari 7s as a training platform to prepare for global tournaments.
