Machakos: Woman gives birth in court after found not guilty in son’s murder case

A pregnant woman in Machakos gave birth at the Kithimani Law Court in Machakos County moments after she was found not guilty of the murder of her son.

Virginia Mbinyi Maingi was arraigned on April 16, 2024 following the death of her 19 months old son.

However, Principal Magistrate Paul Matanda acquitted her of the alleged murder during her arraignment in court.

Virginia suddenly developed labour pains, raising alarm and panic in the court.

Officers from the court then called nurses from Kithimani dispensary who safely delivered Virginia’s baby girl.

Once her condition stabilized, she and her baby girl were transported to her rural home aboard a police vehicle from Matuu station.

Virginia Mbinyi’s arrest

Virginia was arrested on March 25, 2024 and later charged with murder charges on March 27, 2024.

The court had earlier ordered her to be detained at Matuu police station, awaiting further investigations by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

After a medical examination, investigators concluded that the baby had died of starvation.
