Maguire speaks on West Ham transfer speculations and insults from Scotland fans

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has laid bare the reason for snubbing a move to West Ham United in the summer transfer window.

The 30-year-old has fallen way down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag since then, with just one Premier League start to his name so far.

Maguire was rumored to move to West Ham who were on the verge of a £30million fee agreement with the Premier League giants Manchester United for the Englishman.

However Maguire has stated that West Ham actually never made a move for him.

“The actual opportunity to go to West Ham wasn’t agreed really between the two clubs and myself. It wasn’t just my chance to say yes, I’m going.” the defender said during and England pre match interview.

“West Ham is a massive club but like I said my full focus is on Manchester United.

“I want to fight for my place but of course, game time is really important.” he added

Many Manchester United fans had attributed some of the teams failures to Maguire calling on him to move during the Transfer window.

One would say they highly welcomed the West Ham summer move rumors and were ready for the defender lo leave.

The former Red Devils captain has been the Butt of the Joke for sometime now.

last month during the international fixture against Scotland The defender was jeered by Scotland supporters during the friendly, with his own goal another blow for a player whose struggles in recent seasons have seen him become a target for critics.

This forced England’s national team coach Gareth Southgate to come to his defense after the blander despite England’s 2-1 win.

Southgate labelled some of the criticism aimed at Maguire from pundits as a “joke.”

“There has been ridiculous treatment of him for a long period of time, frankly,” Southgate said.

“I actually spoke with David about three weeks ago, after the Scotland game,” 

“He got in touch with me, which was really nice of him and I really appreciated that. It meant everything.

“I’ve spoken about David Beckham being someone I looked up to and I watched when I was a young boy” Said Maguire.
