Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga has dismissed claims that he is President William Ruto’s new point man in the Mt Kenya region.
Speaking during an interview on Monday January 13, 2025, Njenga said that he is an opposition politician, although he supports the government initiative of promoting peace and unity in the country.
“I am aligning with Kenyans. Right now we want unity. I was an Azimio person,” said Njenga, who distanced himself from the Kenya Kwanza government.
In addition, Njenga dismissed recent claims by former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, who alleged the resurgence of a gang sponsored by the Kenya Kwanza government to wreak havoc in Mt Kenya region.
Njenga returned to the headlines after impeachment of Gachagua, raising speculations that he is set to tackle Gachagua and influence the Central Kenya region to support President Ruto’s government.
Meanwhile, the former DP had advised his allied Members of Parliament to write a petition to the International Criminal Court (ICC), over the resurgence of Mungiki.
“He (Gachagua) has no authority to take me anywhere, yet he wants to take me to the ICC. He is just making noise,” said Njenga.
At the same time, the former Mungiki leader condemned the abduction cases in the country, as he called on the government to take action on the alleged abductors.
“I have been a victim of abduction, I was taken in for 7 days when planning Raila-led protests. I was taken with hooded men just before dinner, driven for 300 kilometres. It is not a good thing,” he stated.
However, during the new year celebrations, the ex-Mungiki leader declared his support for President William Ruto‘s government.
Speaking in Nyeri during the National Prayers at Kabiruini on January 1, he said he will support President Ruto’s comeback to Mount Kenya.
