His accomplice, Selina Adundo, faced a different fate, receiving a 2-year non-custodial sentence or the option to pay a Ksh.100,000 fine.

Selling innocent children

The court’s ruling left no room for doubt, asserting that both individuals, were entrusted with the care of these vulnerable children.

They had not only failed in their duty but had also exposed the children to potential harm.

The court unequivocally declared them guilty as charged.

Furthermore, the court deemed that the actions of Leparan and Adundo were a betrayal of the ethical standards expected of social workers.

They had not only violated the trust placed in them but also tarnished the reputation of their profession.

The magistrate took careful note of a documentary that played a pivotal role in uncovering the extent of the conspiracy.

Investigation leads to arrest

The video evidence clearly revealed discussions about the children between Fred, the whistleblower, and Rose, who had posed as the prospective buyer of the children.

It was evident that Fred had made a conscious decision to hand over the children to Rose, flouting the established protocols and ethics of social work.

During the trial, a witness recounted a chilling transaction in which Leparan accepted Ksh.300,000 from a journalist in exchange for an illegally sold abandoned baby at Mama Lucy hospital.

Operation busted

Leparan had callously inquired about Rose’s gender preference for the child, to which she replied that gender was immaterial.

She simply desired a healthy baby.

Leparan’s response, confirming the baby’s health, left no doubt about his sinister intent to abduct and sell the child.

In the end, justice prevailed, holding these individuals accountable for their heinous actions.
