Police have arrested a man in his 30s, identified as Steve, who is accused of kidnapping a two-year-old child in Awendo, Kisumu County two weeks ago.
The suspect allegedly claimed that he took the child because he intended to marry the child’s mother, his girlfriend, who reportedly had not yet agreed to the marriage proposal.
The suspect was apprehended at a local eatery in Awendo town, where he worked as a waiter. Authorities confirmed that the man is now in custody and will soon be handed over to Kisumu police for further investigations.
Awendo Community Policing Chairperson, Joseph Opole, stated that his team had been searching for the suspect for the past week after receiving information about his whereabouts.
Opole added that they successfully located the suspect along with the child and handed them over to the police.
