Officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested a suspect involved in selling fake Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment letters.

EACC officers arrested Patrick Njue in Sagana, Nyeri County after receiving complaints from members of the public.

He has been charging Ksh400,000 for the fake KDF recruitment letter.

“EACC has arrested one Patrick Njue who has allegedly been extorting money from members of the public by selling fake Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment letters,” read part of the EACC statement.

Njue was taken to the EACC Central region office in Nyeri for further interrogation.

“The Commission is in receipt of complaints from several victims in Central Kenya who have allegedly lost hundreds of thousands to Mr. Njue in pursuit of admission of their sons and daughters to KDF,” the commission noted.

Additionally, the government agency has warned citizens against engaging in cases of bribery with the aim of joining KDF.

Defence Ministry warning

However, before the KDF recruitment kicked off on August 28, the Ministry of Defence warned Kenyans against bribery in the exercise.

The Department of Defence had on August 12, clarified that the recruitment exercise in all 47 counties will be free of charge.

“The Kenya Defence Forces recruitment drive is free to all eligible candidates,” the ministry noted in a statement.

“Members of the public are warned against engaging in malpractices with a view to influencing the recruitment process and are encouraged to report any suspicious activities or characters to the nearest Police Station or Military Camp.”

According to the Ministry, KDF was preparing to list General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets and specialist officers.

Other categories for recruitment were, general duty recruits, trades people and defence forces constables.

The recruitment exercise was concluded on September 8, as successful recruits waited for reporting and training.
