A man in Pangani, Nairobi County died early Monday morning while escaping a fire in his apartment.
The fire erupted at around 3am on the first floor of his residential building along North View Road. Consequently, all residents of the upper floors could not leave the apartment.
Smoke filled up the entire building, sending occupants into panic mode.
The victim, who lived on the fourth floor, attempted to cross over to the next building which is about three meters from his residence.
He reportedly jumped from his balcony but missed the target and instead hit the wall with nowhere to support himself.
Consequently, he fell headfirst to the ground and died on the spot.
His body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and identification.
County fire brigade team put out the fire although property of unknown value had already been damaged by the inferno.
Police have begun investigations to establish the cause of the early morning fire.
