Police have detained a 23-year-old man in Bukedea District, Uganda after he killed his brother’s wife during a fight over a phone battery.
The two were fighting over a phone battery that exploded while it was being charged using a solar panel.
Stephen Okwii, used a hand hoe to kill Joyce Acham, a mother of four children in Kokutu village.
This was after she intervened when Okwii was fighting with his father after the phone battery exploded.

“When Okwii learned that his battery had exploded, he became furious and started fighting his father,” an eyewitness Winny Abwate told The Monitor.
Abwate added that Joyce Acham was killed as she tried to stop the fight between Okwii and his father.
“Everybody in our community is shocked because this is the first time a man has killed his brother’s wife,” said Abwate.
At the same time, Kokutu village LC1 chairman Simon Elungat said Okwii’s father Michael Imalingat and grandmother Atino were seriously injured during the incident.
“The injured had attempted to stop him from harming the wife and the brother but he overpowered them and in the process left them nursing wounds,” said the village LC1 chairman.

The body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary while the injured were treated at Bukedea Health Centre.
Meanwhile, Bukedea District Police commander Richard Asiimwe reported that the suspect is being held at Bukedea Central police station.
“We intervened and arrested Okwii, as we prepared the body for postmortem,” said Asiimwe.
