A young woman is fighting for her life in hospital after being viciously attacked by her ex-boyfriend in what authorities believe was a jealousy driven assault.
The 24-year-old woman was stabbed in the chest and on her left ear in Nyakbong’ village, Kamjulu, on Friday at around 4:45 p.m.
The suspect, said to be her former partner, allegedly stormed into her current boyfriend’s house and found her alone before launching the violent attack.
Preliminary reports from police indicate the man used a sharp object believed to be a knife during the assault.
He fled the scene before he could do more harm, after neighbours heard the woman’s screams and rushed to intervene.
Thanks to their quick response, the woman was rescued and immediately taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.
She remains in critical condition, with doctors working around the clock to save her life.
Investigators believe the incident was premeditated. Locals told police the man had struggled to accept the breakup and was reportedly angered by the fact that the woman had moved on with someone else.
A joint effort between the police and members of the community is underway to track down the suspect, who is still at large.
This attack closely follows another alarming case reported in Baringo County, where a 32-year-old woman was murdered, allegedly by her ex-husband, for being in a new relationship.
The victim in that case was found dead with severe head injuries outside her current partner’s residence. The suspect in that case is also on the run, with detectives actively pursuing leads.
Authorities continue to urge the public to report any information that could assist in capturing the suspects and preventing further acts of gender-based violence.
