Police in Nakuru have arrested the prime suspect in the murder of a yet-to-be-identified middle-aged woman on December 25, 2024.
Bernard Ngugi Mbau was arrested from his hideout by police who were assisted by a team of detectives drawn from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters.
The suspect, police say, had run into hiding after committing the heinous murder.
On the fateful day, Ngugi — who was employed at Ngomongo Village within Rurii Location — is said to have murdered the woman, gouged her eyes, severed her mammary glands and inflicted multiple wounds on the victims head and abdomen before stuffing her remains in a sack and bolting out of his staff quarter residence.
According to a neighbour, one Edward Munyuku, he received a call from Mr Mwangi at 8 pm on December 25 asking him to rush to her house because her husband was not feeling well.
Mwangi’s wife wanted to be helped to rush him to hospital, however, she realised that the worker (Bernard Ngugi) was missing. It is at this point that she rushed to the servants’ quarters to get the gate keys, but was shocked to find a sack soaked in blood.
At first, she thought that a goat had been slaughtered but upon confirmation, it was the body of the woman.
They also found a hammer and a knife in a bucket- almost full of red colored water, reporting the matter at Workers Police Patrol Base.
Police officers and detectives visited the scene of crime and removed the body remains to Nakuru Annex Hospital mortuary.
A search for the 25-year-old suspect commenced. “After a tireless search, Ngugi has been smoked out his hide out at Tumaini shopping centre in Nyandarua County and is currently being interrogated and subjected to further police procedures pending arraignment,” authorities say.
