Man with disability and wife burnt beyond recognition as fire razes their home in Lari

Grief has engulfed Laare village in Lari Constituency, Kiambu County, after a couple was burnt beyond recognition by a fire.

The fire which started on Monday, July 23 night when the man and his wife were sleeping was reportedly caused by electricity fault.

Desperate residents tried to rescue Peter Kimani Kuria and his wife Miriam Muthoni from the burning house, but they were unable to out out the fire.

Benjamin Gatambia, brother to the deceased, told TV47 that the village has been experiencing electricity flactuations in the last one month, suspecting that this might have caused the fire.

Confirming the incident, Gitithia Location Chief Samuel Kahoro said investigations have kicked off.

The local administrator urged residents to remain calm as investigation agencies unearth the cause of the fire.

Lari Kirenga MCA said he will do a follow up with Kenya Power and Lighting Company to conduct thorough audit of the losses locals have incurred as a result of the power fluctuations.
