Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and his estranged wife, Cristina Serra, have officially begun legal proceedings to dissolve their marriage after 30 years together.
The couple, who announced their amicable split in January, are working to ensure a smooth and respectful separation. Reports indicate that all settlement processes have been agreed upon and could be finalized soon.
A Cordial Separation
According to Spanish journalist Lorena Vázquez, Guardiola and Serra are committed to keeping their divorce friendly for the sake of their children.
“They want it to be amicable, above all, for their children. As you can imagine, money is not an issue, and they have already agreed on the initial terms to ensure the separation is as cordial as possible,” Vázquez stated.
“They have a very good relationship—so much so that the same lawyer is handling the entire process.”
Did Guardiola’s Manchester City Contract Renewal Influence the Split?
Vázquez also suggested that Guardiola’s contract renewal at Manchester City might have been a key factor in their decision.
The 54-year-old extended his contract with City in November 2022, committing to the club until 2027. This decision reportedly reaffirmed his stay in England, while Cristina had already returned to Spain five years ago, living separately from her husband.
Despite their physical separation, Guardiola was recently spotted still wearing his wedding ring, sparking speculation that he remains open to reconciliation—a sentiment sources say Cristina does not share.
A Love Story That Began in a Fashion Store
Pep and Cristina first met when an 18-year-old Guardiola walked into a fashion store owned by Cristina’s family. At the time, he was a Barcelona B player, and Cristina was an actress who had appeared on a popular Spanish TV station.
Recently, when approached by journalists about her rumored split, Cristina briefly responded:
“Everything’s fine.”
A New Chapter for Guardiola
While Guardiola continues his pursuit of footballing immortality with Manchester City, Cristina has remained in Spain, leading separate lives for years.
Their three-decade-long love story now comes to an official end, but both remain focused on ensuring a smooth transition for their family.
