Erik ten Hag believes Manchester United’s breathless 4-3 win at Wolves was well deserved, this is after Kobbie Mainoo scored a sensational 97th-minute winner for Manchester United his first premier league goal.
At the time Wolves had levelled in stoppage-time in the scintillating match at Molineux.
This is Mainoo’s 11th senior appearance for United, with his previous games seeing him being quietly impressive in central midfield.
Seconds after Pedro Neto had equalised for the hosts, Mainoo picked the ball up 35 yards from goal. He beat one defender, nutmegged Wolves captain Max Kilman, cut onto his right foot and curled a beautiful low finish past Jose Sa.
Marcus Rashford had opened the scoring five minutes into his United return, days after being fined for missing training after a night out, and looked set to grab the headlines as United sped into a 2-0 lead.
Scott McTominay restored the visitors’ two-goal cushion after Pablo Sarabia’s penalty got Wolves back in the game.
Erik ten Hag’s side moved back into the top seven after ending a run of four away league matches without winning and are now eight points off the Champions League places, while Wolves stay 11th.
“There’s a great spirit in the squad, in this dressing room. We are on the pitch all together and that’s very good to see. You see the determination, you see the resilience of this squad. They are so eager to get the right results and they want to play good football.” Stated manager Erik Ten Hag after the Match.
Mainoo is the latest teenage star to come through the United ranks and burst onto the Premier League stage.
