Manchester United grants Antony time to tackle assault allegations

Manchester United has granted a temporary leave of absence to winger Antony to address allegations of violence involving three women.

Last week, the Brazil squad dropped the 23-year-old due to accusations of physical aggression towards his former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, on multiple occasions since January.

These allegations are currently under investigation by the police, and Antony vehemently denies them.

In support of Antony’s need to focus on defending himself against these allegations, Manchester United has reached an agreement with the player for him to step away from the club temporarily.

However, Antony has not faced arrest or charges, and he has actively expressed his willingness to cooperate with the police in order to prove his innocence.

“I have agreed with Manchester United to take a period of absence while I address the allegations made against me. He said in a statement

“I want to reiterate my innocence of the things I have been accused of, and I will fully cooperate with the police” he added.

Manchester United’s club statement read:

“Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony. Players who have not participated in international matches are due back in training on Monday.

“However, it has been agreed with Antony that he will delay his return until further notice in order to address the allegations.

“As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognize the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation,

“We acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”

Manchester United will closely monitor the situation, consulting with Erik ten Hag, without suspending Antony at this point.

During an interview, Antony went on to talk about violence towards women and added:

“I don’t support this ever. It’s totally wrong, 100 per cent wrong.

“I have a mother and a sister, and I would never want this to happen to them.”

Additionally, last Friday, two more women accused him of assault, which he also denied in the TV interview.
