Manchester United recalls Anthony amid assault investigations

SportsWORLD

Antony has resumed training with Manchester United and is eligible for selection as he continues to cooperate with ongoing police investigations into allegations of domestic abuse.

The Brazilian international had been granted a leave of absence on September 10 but returned to England earlier this week.

He voluntarily participated in an interview with Greater Manchester Police on Thursday, consistently maintaining his innocence regarding the allegations.

Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, stated that Antony will rejoin training over the weekend, likely ruling him out of the league match against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Ten Hag mentioned, “On Saturday he will be back in training. I have to see how his fitness levels are, but I expect them to be OK.”

When asked if he was concerned that Antony’s presence might disrupt the team, Ten Hag replied, “I don’t think it will be a distraction.”

In a statement issued on Friday, Manchester United declared, “As Antony’s employer, Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington and be available for selection while police inquiries proceed. This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case.”

The club emphasized their condemnation of acts of violence and abuse, expressing their commitment to safeguarding all parties involved and acknowledging the impact of such allegations on abuse survivors.

Antony faces multiple accusations of physical aggression from his former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, who spoke to the Brazilian outlet UOL in September.

The winger has vehemently denied these allegations, as well as additional assault claims made by Rayssa de Freitas and Ingrid Lana.

Antony has not been arrested or charged in either Brazil or by Greater Manchester Police, and he left the voluntary interview after presenting evidence in support of his denials without any restrictions.
