Manchester United under investigation for serving guests ‘raw chicken’

Manchester United is reportedly under investigation by Trafford Council following allegations that the club served undercooked chicken at an event held at Old Trafford, leading to several attendees falling ill.

The Athletic reports that the club is conducting an internal investigation into the matter. The event, which occurred in the past few months at the stadium, has unspecified details.

The investigation aims to determine whether the guests’ symptoms were caused by the food consumed at Old Trafford or if the alleged illness originated from another source.

Despite this, the club currently holds a ‘Five – Very Good’ food hygiene rating from the government’s Food Standards Agency (FSA), with the latest inspection conducted on October 23, 2023.

According to The Athletic, the FSA rates the club’s ‘management of food safety’ and ‘hygienic food handling’ as ‘good.’

However, the report may raise questions about Manchester United’s hygiene rating, potentially necessitating expenditures to enhance their catering procedures.

The FSA, a government department overseeing food safety, assigns ratings to catering businesses across the UK based on inspections evaluating how organizations handle, store, and prepare food. In severe cases, the agency has the authority to close and halt the trading of a business.

On matchdays, Manchester United generates significant revenue through hospitality packages. The club also earns money by hosting events at Old Trafford outside of fixtures.

Currently, the club offers a Christmas party event package for £ 42 per head, featuring a ‘three-course meal,’ as mentioned on their website.
