Manchester United has revealed conceptual images and scale models of a proposed 100,000-seater stadium, marking a historic step in the regeneration of the Old Trafford area.
The architectural firm Foster + Partners, appointed to design the stadium district, unveiled the master plan on Tuesday. This vision will guide the project’s feasibility studies, consultations, and planning as the club moves into the next phase.
A Stadium for the Future
According to Manchester United’s official website, the stadium and broader redevelopment plan could generate: £7.3 billion (Ksh 7.3 trillion) annually for the UK economy, 92,000 new jobs, 17,000 new homes and 1.8 million additional visitors per year
Sir Jim Ratcliffe on the Project
Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe described the project as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” to create the world’s greatest football stadium while boosting the local economy.
“Our current stadium has served us brilliantly for 115 years, but it has fallen behind the best arenas in world sport. By building next to the existing site, we will preserve the essence of Old Trafford while delivering a truly state-of-the-art stadium.”
“More importantly, this project will drive social and economic renewal in Old Trafford, creating jobs and investment far beyond the construction phase.”
Sir Alex Ferguson Supports the Vision
Manchester United’s legendary former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, also backed the ambitious plans:
“Manchester United should always strive for the best in everything it does, on and off the pitch. Old Trafford holds so many special memories for me, but we must be brave and seize this opportunity to build a new home, fit for the future.”
Next Steps & What This Means for United Fans
The design phase will now progress with feasibility studies and consultations Meanwhile The proposed stadium will be located next to the current Old Trafford site, preserving its historic significance.
If completed, this redevelopment will cement Manchester United’s place at the forefront of global football and significantly enhance the matchday experience for fans.
