Detectives in Imenti North, Meru County, have launched an intense manhunt for a gang of three violent robbers who attacked a couple early Sunday morning, leaving a trail of horror and pain.

The victims, a man and his girlfriend, were heading home to Mwitetia from Meru town at around 5 a.m. when they were ambushed by the machete-wielding gang at Gakoromone. Riding on a motorcycle, the gang intercepted their boda boda, forcing the rider to flee in terror. The couple was left defenseless as they tumbled to the ground.

Seizing the moment, the assailants robbed them of their mobile phones and cash before dragging the helpless woman away and taking turns raping her. Her boyfriend’s desperate attempt to intervene was met with a vicious stab to his inner thigh, rendering him immobile.

The victims’ ordeal ended when Good Samaritans found them and rushed them to Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital, where they received medical attention before being discharged.

Authorities have vowed swift action, with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) pursuing critical leads to apprehend the criminals.

“We are closing in on them. They will not escape justice,” a detective involved in the case assured.

The horrific attack has sparked outrage among Meru residents, with calls for enhanced security measures in the area.

As investigations intensify, police are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals.

The hunt for the ruthless gang continues, and the community is hopeful that justice will be served soon.
