Many terrified after a Lady attempted to open a flight door mid-air in Nigeria

A Nigerian man has took to his social media to narrate an incident where a lady attempted to open an aircraft door while mid-air.

Alex Onyia, expressed his fears on X, formerly known as Twitter.

He recalled the incident where they had to intervene to prevent what could have been a disaster.

They were on board Ibom Air flight to Enugu when the lady tried to open the emergency door exit.

When questioned, she responded with a smile, claiming she wanted to see if the door would open.

Onyia went ahead and stated that airlines should be cautious of who they allow to seat on those critical seats.

”I experienced a terrifying moment early this morning while flying with Ibom Air to Enugu. The woman seated in front of me, near the emergency exit, attempted to pen the door mid-flight. We quickly intervened to prevent a potential disaster. When questioned, she responded with a smile, claiming she wanted to see if the door would open. Airlines should be careful on who they allow on those critical seats.”

Many people reacted to Onyia’s tweet sharing their concerns on the incident hoping that Airlines would be cautious of such an incident in the future.

What happens if a flight door is opened mid-air

When a flight door is opened mid-air, an explosive decompression would occur.

Anyone standing near the exit could be thrown into the sky. The temperature inside the cabin would drop very fast, causing frostbite.

The plane might even start breaking apart.

What to do when the flight door opens mid-air

According to Pilots workshop.com, closing a flights door after it has opened is almost impossible.

However, pilots are advised to maintain aircraft control.
