Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has sparked speculation about his future at the club after opening up about his feelings following his exclusion from the recent Manchester Derby.
Despite Manchester United winning the game, Rashford said the decision to exclude him was disheartening. He went ahead to admit that his time at Old Trafford was coming to an end.
“For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” Rashford said.
“When I leave, it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings.’ You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person. If I know that a situation is already bad, I’m not going to make it worse.”
The 26-year-old, who has played for United since he was eight years old and joined the academy, said the snub was disappointing but emphasised his maturity in handling setbacks.
“It’s disheartening to be left out of a derby, but it’s happened; we won the game, so let’s move on,” Rashford said. “I’m someone who, as I’ve got older, can deal with setbacks. What am I going to do about it? Sit there and cry about it? Or do my best the next time I’m available?”
Rashford’s comments come amidst a season where his form has been under scrutiny, and Manchester United’s inconsistent performances have drawn criticism.
While he remained diplomatic, his remarks suggest that he is considering a fresh start away from the club where he has spent 16 years and played his entire professional career.
“When I leave, I’ll make a statement, and it will be from me,” he added, hinting that a potential departure could come sooner rather than later.
Since entering the senior squad in 2015, he has made 287 appearances and scored 87 goals for Manchester United.
