Margaret Nduta’s mother pleads with President Ruto after Vietnam delays her execution

The mother of Margaret Nduta, the Kenyan woman facing execution in Vietnam, has sent a desperate appeal to President William Ruto.

Her appeal comes  a day after the Vietnamese authorities delayed Nduta’s execution.

Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday March 19, 2025, at their home in Murang’a County, Nduta’s mother, Purity Wangari expressed gratitude to the government for its intervention to save her life.

In addition, Wangari called on President Ruto to engage in further negotiations to facilitate her daughter’s return to Kenya.

“Thank you President Ruto, because my child has not been killed. Please bring her back home, we’ll be very grateful,” said Wangari.

At the same time, Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege visited the family, and confirmed that diplomatic efforts are underway to save Nduta.

“There is a lot of diplomacy and communication going on, but the best bit is that Nduta will not be hanged now,” Chege revealed.

Meanwhile, Nduta’s family and friends have turned to prayers, as they seek God’s intervention  after receiving news of postponing her execution.

Nduta’s problems in the Middle East began in July 2023 when she was arrested with 2 Kgs of cocaine at Ho Chi Minh City Airport on her way to Laos.

The 37-year-old Nduta has maintained that she was not aware of the concealed illicit drugs, but the Vietnamese court convicted her of drug trafficking on March 6, 2025. She was then sentenced to death by lethal injection.
