Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua travelled to Kampala, Uganda to represent opposition leader Kizza Besigye in court.
Karua is set to represent Besigye at a military tribunal in Kampala on Monday December 2, 2024.
In a statement posted on X, the Narc Kenya party leader on Sunday December 1, noted that she was expecting the government of Uganda to issue her with a licence to enable her discharge her legal duties in the neighboring country.
“I am hopeful of getting the license and already in Kampala,” Karua posted on X.
Meanwhile, some Ugandan opposition politicians raised concerns, stating that the government may fail to clear Karua to represent Besigye in court.
This comes barely two weeks after Besigye was allegedly abducted while in Nairobi on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
According to Besigye’s wife, Winnie Byanyima, the politician went missing while in Nairobi to attend the launch of Martha Karua’s memoir, ‘Against The Tide’.
At that time, she disclosed that reliable reports indicated her husband was being held at a military jail in Kampala, Uganda.
His abduction led to an uproar on social media as the Kenyan military was accused of helping in the illegal abduction and deportation of the Ugandan politician.
Karua was among leaders who demanded for the release of Besigye, while calling on Uganda’s President Kaguta Museveni and his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto to ensure his safety.
However, the government of Kenya defended the security agencies, noting that the government was not involved in Besigye’s abduction.
