Mary Moraa gave Kenya its third medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, securing third place in the women’s 800 meters final.
Moraa who is also the world champion clocked 1:57.42 to earn bronze, while Ethiopia’s Tsige Duguma clocked a personal best of 1:57.15 to win silver. Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson led from start to finish, grabbing gold with a time of 1:56.72.
Moraa’s Olympic campaign began with a strong performance in the first round, where she finished second behind Duguma. She then won her semifinal with a remarkable time of 1:57.86, ahead of Worknesh Mesele of Ethiopia.
The bronze marked a significant improvement from her performance at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, where she did not advance past the semi-finals.
