Maryam Mwakitawa holds top Spot at Junior Golf NCBA invitational

Maryam Mwakitawa maintained her position as the leader in the girls 15-18 years category at the ongoing Junior Golf Foundation NCBA Invitational at Windsor Golf and Country Club in Nairobi, Kenya.

Building on her strong performance in round one, where she carded a five-over-par 79, Mwakitawa delivered an impressive two-over-par 74 in the second round, the best score of the day. This performance places her at an overall nine-over-par 153, narrowly ahead of Audrey Gachora.

Tightly Contested Leaderboard

Gachora, who played eight-over-par 80 in the first round, matched Mwakitawa’s second-round score of two-over-par 74, moving her to second place with an overall score of ten-over-par 154, just one stroke behind Mwakitawa.

Reflecting on her game, Mwakitawa said:

“The course was definitely difficult, with greens running fast and tight lines. The difference today was being more cautious and present, especially while putting.”

Gachora, equally determined, commented:

“Sunday was a tough but rewarding day. I fought hard, and it paid off. I’m ready to give it my all in the final round.”

Boys 13-14 Years: Shashwat Harish Dominates

In the boys 13-14 years category, Shashwat Harish continued his dominance, posting another two-under-par 70 in round two. This brings his overall score to an impressive four-under-par 140, solidifying his lead heading into the final round.

“Saturday felt like it could have been even better, but Sunday was a grind. Each day on the course is different, and that’s what makes golf challenging and exciting,” Harish shared.

The three-day tournament, sponsored by NCBA Bank, has drawn over 110 junior golfers from 10 countries. Players in the 15-18 years category will earn merit points toward the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), adding an extra layer of prestige to the competition.
