A Maryland woman has been sentenced to 50 years in prison.

This is after authorities discovered the decomposing bodies of her young niece and nephew in the trunk of her car during a traffic stop.

Nicole Johnson, 36, was found guilty of the unthinkable crime that took the lives of 7-year-old Joshlyn Johnson and 5-year-old Larry O’Neil.

The two children had been left in her care.

The devastating case unfolded, when Baltimore County police pulled Nicole over for a routine traffic stop.

What seemed like a standard procedure quickly took a chilling turn when officers noticed a strong odour of decomposition coming from the vehicle.

Upon further inspection, Nicole retrieved a tote bag and a suitcase from her trunk,inside lay the remains of Joshlyn and Larry, concealed for months.

Shocking truth unveiled

Investigations revealed that Nicole had been caring for the children since 2019, after their mother left them in her custody.

Prosecutors said the tragedy began in May 2020, when Joshlyn was fatally injured after Nicole struck her for taking food from the fridge.

Instead of seeking medical help,Nicole placed her niece’s body in a suitcase and left it in her car for months.

Little Larry, left to endure a nightmare beyond words, suffered a similar fate.

Two months before the traffic stop, he sustained an injury and never woke up.

His body was then placed next to his sister’s in the trunk, where both children remained until the fateful day police made the discovery.

“To put it mildly, this was a horrific crime,” Judge Nancy M. Purpura stated during the sentencing.

The children’s grandmother, devastated by the loss, expressed her grief, saying she had desperately tried to get help and was waiting for her grandchildren to return home.
