Azam TV to begin FKF Premier League Coverage with Mashemeji Derby

Kenyan football fans are eager to see the beginning of the implementation of the broadcast deal between the Football Kenya Federation and Tanzanian-owned Azam TV.

Since the signing of the deal in August, Azam has yet to air any Football Kenya Federation Premier League match, thereby causing speculation on the commitment of the broadcaster to the deal.

However after nearly four match days without any televised action. Azam is all set to roll the curtains for the inaugural broadcast of the Gor Mahia vs AFC Leopards match since they signed the five-year, KSH1.3 billion deal.

The choice to have Mashemeji Derby as the first match to air adds to the excitement as the Two clubs have had a long-standing rivalry for a long time and both clubs enjoy a huge following in the country.

Azam to time to begin the coverage due to the needed installation of the system and all the necessary technical equipment this is according to AFC Leopards Secretary General Gilbert Andugu.

“Plans are underway and I can assure you that our Mashemeji derby will be aired on Azam this Saturday that will be the first match to be aired this season.

“But before that, we are launching AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia broadcasting package with Azam, an event that will take place this Thursday here in Nairobi in the morning,” he said

Last season, Azam conducted a test broadcast with FKF, airing two live matches:

The Gor Mahia vs. AFC Leopards Mashemeji Derby and the Tusker FC vs. Kariobangi Sharks game.

Following these trial matches, the Federation distributed kSh300,000 to each of the participating clubs.
