Mavuso Msimang withdraws resignation after talks with ANC top leadership

SOUTH AFRICA

African National Congress (ANC) Veterans League (ANC -VL) deputy president Mavuso Msimang has withdrawn his resignation after talks with party leadership.

This was after Msimang resigned from the party on December 6, 2023 after being a member for over 60 years.

In a statement on Thursday, December 14, ANC noted that Msimang has withdrawn his resignation and will therefore continue pushing the agenda of South Africa’s ruling party.

However, his return follows a meeting with ANC secretary general Fikile Mbalula with the facilitation of ANC’s Veterans League.

“The ANC will continue to seek the wise counsel of the elders of the ANC in whose footsteps we walk.

“The SG regrets that he made comments that impugned the integrity of CDE Msimang, suggesting that he was vulnerable to taking a bribe from a newly established political formation,” read part of the ANC statement.

At the time of his resignation, Msimang had cited endemic corruption as a reason for his resignation from ANC.

“Consequently, I have realised that my time and energies would be better spent elsewhere.

“Even as I painfully sever ties with my once glorious organisation, I shall continue to keep a vigil over any and all matters pertaining to governance in the country.

“It is not easy to leave an organisation that continues to be home to some of the most dedicated individuals I have had the good fortune, honour and privilege to call comrades. But it is time to go,” Msimang noted in his resignation letter.

On the other hand, his resignation had been accepted by ANC Veterans League, according to spokesperson Snuki Zikalala.
