Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé has swiftly shut down a recent report claiming that Swedish police are investigating an alleged rape incident at a hotel he recently stayed at. The 25-year-old footballer responded to the allegations on social media, calling them “fake news” and suggesting the timing is not coincidental.
Swedish media outlet Aftonbladet had reported that authorities were looking into an incident that occurred on Thursday night at the Bank Hotel in Stockholm, where Mbappé stayed from Wednesday to Friday last week with friends. The publication indicated that police are investigating an alleged rape that took place at the hotel.
However, Mbappé took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday afternoon to deny any involvement, labeling the report as false. He pointed to the suspicious timing of the story, which surfaced just ahead of a hearing scheduled for Tuesday regarding a £46 million (€55m) dispute with his former club Paris Saint-Germain over unpaid bonuses and wages.
Mbappé tweeted:
“FAKE NEWS !!!! It’s becoming so predictable, just before the hearing as if by chance.”
Controversial Sweden Visit Amid Nations League Clash
Mbappé’s visit to Sweden has already generated headlines, as he attended a nightclub on the same night France played Israel in the UEFA Nations League, raising questions about his commitment to the national team. This comes after a challenging few weeks for the French forward, who recently returned to action for Real Madrid following an injury last month.
Despite these controversies, Mbappé is now focused on moving past recent setbacks. Real Madrid are set to face Celta Vigo this Saturday, with Mbappé expected to play a key role in the squad’s lineup.
What’s Next for Mbappé?
The upcoming hearing regarding unpaid bonuses from PSG adds to the list of off-field issues Mbappé has been dealing with. However, the footballer appears determined to focus on his performances and leave the distractions behind as he continues his successful season with Real Madrid.
