MC Jessy calls out MCSK over unfair demands ahead of his event

Popular comedian Jasper Muthomi, better known as MC Jessy, has expressed his frustration with the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK).

This is over a hefty fee demanded ahead of his upcoming event.

The comedian, known for his performances on the Churchill Show, is gearing up for a comedy show.

Scheduled for December 11 at Sk8city Nairobi in Parklands.

MC Jessy took to Instagram to share his disappointment.

Revealing that MCSK has asked him to pay Ksh 200,000 to hold the event.

Despite his tireless efforts to organize and promote the show, the unexpected demand has added to his burden.

In his video, Mc Jessy explained the struggles he’s faced in preparing for the event.

From paying skaters and online influencers to promote the show, to feeding his team and consulting creatives.

The comedian has personally funded every aspect of the production.

“I’ve had to use a lot of money to ensure this event will be a success,” he lamented.

Questioning why he has to pay such a steep fee for a single night of comedy.

Adding to his frustration, Mc Jessy highlighted what he perceives as the unfair treatment of artists by MCSK.

He pointed out that musicians and performers like his friends Bien and Khaligraph Jones often receive as little as Ksh 1,500 annually from the organization.

Yet MCSK expects him to pay a sum equivalent to ticket sales for 100 people.

He further shared,

“I’ve been told I’ll be arrested on Wednesday if I dare do my very own comedy show without paying the Ksh 200,000.”

He didn’t hide his displeasure and went on to explain the difference of comedy and music.

Further he didn’t see how the two were related.

MC Jessy political affliation

The comedian’s plea struck a chord with many of his followers, some of whom sympathized with his plight.

However, others reminded him of his past political affiliations, particularly his support for President William Ruto’s campaign.

To back another candidate.

This was after he had officially joined Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

Netizens remided him of his political involvement and it earned him a share of criticism online.
