Kipkenyo Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), David Kimele Leting, on Saturday January 11, 2025 hosted a party to celebrate for scoring a mean grade of D- (minus) in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2024.
Leting was among the 962,512 candidates who sat for the recently released KCSE examinations after registering as a private candidate.
Speaking to the media during the ceremony, the MCA said he sat for the examination for the sake of attaining a KCSE certificate, thus the excitement for the D- grade.
“I am ahead of over 480 candidates who have already wasted 15 years to go to school. I have never gone to any school, even a tuition,” said the MCA of the Uasin Gishu County Assembly.
“There is nobody who has come to where I am and told me that this is this and this is this, I am trying to do my exam through God,” he added.
Having had no formal education before, he stated that he expected to score an E, so it was necessary to have the celebration.
His results shared with the media consist of 4 Es in Mathematics, Geography, Chemistry, and English and two D minus in Kiswahili and Christian Religious Education.
His best-performing subject was Biology in which he scored a surprising C- (minus).
“In Biochemistry, I scored C minus and nobody here received C minus because studies are very difficult,” he narrated.
This is after Leting scored 150 marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams in 2020.
According to the 64-year-old MCA, he dropped out of nursery school in 1970.
“There was a time when they said all MCAs need to have a KCSE Certificate to qualify to be an MCA. Right now there is nothing they can tell me.
“I am happy that I already know how to speak in English and explain because that is my nature and this is from God,” said the MCA.
